New thing: freestyle jamboree!

So tonight, after my housemate kept asking me to go along, I went to one of those “barefoot dances” that are held in churches or community centers. I was nearly dragged there with all my introverted dread! But I’m doing this thing were I try new stuff, especially if it makes me uncomfortable. It was bizarre, which is how freestylers usually look to outsiders or really anyone from my generation’s club-culture. Luckily, I honestly adore dancing (I took tap lessons from a young age through senior high). After swaying in the corner by myself for a few songs, I became more comfortable & I began to notice that this was just a nice group of folks who need community like the rest of us, who really (really) love to shake it. There were also extremely kind ones who made a point to introduce themselves or help make me acquainted with how to freestyle or ask me to dance. I was really struck with the variety of people that showed up, some are obviously dancers, some are straight hippies, some are nearby college students wanting to blow off steam & lots of regulars. When you just ignore the ones rolling around on the floor, enjoy the music, stop caring about what’s going on around  & simply move for your own benefit, it’s awesome. I made some new friends tonight, too, so definitely going again!
